Profiles
A profile is the set of rules dbLinter checks. The five profiles form a ladder: each one enables its own rules plus every rule of the profiles below it, so moving up never drops a rule you already rely on.
-
Level 1 Essential No-brainer, universal agreement. 63 rules (+63)
-
Level 2 Balanced Good practice, low controversy. 97 rules (+34)
-
Level 3 Strict Advanced, medium controversy. 171 rules (+74)
-
Level 4 Aggressive Opinionated, high controversy. 205 rules (+34)
-
Level 5 Extreme Merciless, includes everything. 228 rules (+23)
Which profile should I pick?
- Existing code base: start with Essential. Its rules have universal agreement, so the findings are worth fixing and nobody will argue about them.
- New project or a team with a coding standard: Balanced or Strict. It is much easier to keep code clean from the start than to clean it up later.
- Aggressive and Extreme include opinionated rules. Use them to discover what dbLinter can check, then keep the rules your team agrees on.
You can switch individual rules on or off and change their parameters at dblinter.app, whichever profile you start from.
